Luffa, also known as loofah or sponge gourd, is a climbing plant belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family. Its most commonly cultivated species is Luffa aegyptiaca, native to Asia and Africa. Its fruit is elongated and cylindrical, reaching up to one meter in length. When ripe, its skin becomes hard and brown, and inside it there is a fibrous sponge that is widely used for skin cleansing and exfoliation in personal care products.
In addition to its exfoliating properties, Luffa is an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic sponges and other cleaning products made from non-renewable materials. The plant grows quickly and is easy to cultivate, making it a sustainable option for those looking to reduce their environmental footprint.
