The Luffa is a climbing plant of the Cucurbitaceae family, also known as vegetable sponge or fluffy gourd. Its most commonly cultivated species is the Luffa aegyptiaca, native to Asia and Africa. Its fruit is elongated and cylindrical, and can reach a length of up to one meter. When ripe, its skin turns brown and hard, and inside it is a fibrous sponge that is commonly used for cleaning and exfoliating the skin in personal care products.
