Luffa is a climbing plant from the Cucurbitaceae family, also known as vegetable sponge or sponge gourd. Its most commonly cultivated species is Luffa aegyptiaca, native to Asia and Africa. Its fruit is elongated and cylindrical, and can reach a length of up to one meter. When ripe, its skin turns brown and hard, and inside there is a fibrous sponge that is commonly used for skin cleansing and exfoliation in personal care products.

In addition, Luffa is a sustainable alternative to synthetic sponges and other cleaning products made from non-renewable materials, as it is a fast-growing and easy-to-grow plant.
