The secret to beautiful hair, natural solid shampoo

By Amelia Perez

For many years, due to allergies to chemical products, I have been washing my body exclusively with natural soap that I make myself.

Discover the beauty of washing your hair with natural solid soap: an artisanal ritual to nourish and revitalize your hair.

Washing my hair with a bar of soap or natural shampoo is a very easy task for me and I understand that people who are used to liquid substances may find it strange. Below, I will take you step by step through the process I follow to get the best result.

Although I always wash my hair in the shower, today we washed it outside to better illustrate the process.

Our Natural Olive Oil Soap with Aloe Vera is the soap that we have found gives the best overall results for all hair types.

1. We choose a quality natural solid soap or shampoo

Choosing a natural shampoo bar with quality ingredients is essential to take care of the health and appearance of our hair. Conventional shampoos contain harmful chemicals, while natural shampoos are formulated with gentle ingredients that respect the natural pH of the hair and scalp, providing effective cleansing without compromising its well-being. In addition, natural ingredients have beneficial properties for the hair, such as moisturizing and strengthening, which improves its overall appearance.

The Olive Oil Soap with Aloe Vera is our basic and all-round soap. Its formula is suitable for all hair types, providing softness and shine. You can also complete your hygiene routine as it can be used on the whole body.

We start by wetting the hair well, making sure it is soaked to the tips.

2. We soak the hair well

In order to get water to all areas of your hair, it's important to thoroughly soak your hair. Start by thoroughly wetting your hair under the shower, making sure the water reaches both the roots and the tips. Then, gently massage your scalp with your fingertips to allow the water to penetrate the roots. If you have long or thick hair, you can tilt your head back and pour water over the top of your head so that all of your hair is thoroughly soaked. Repeat this process several times if necessary until your hair is completely soaked.

Using a solid soap or shampoo can be a strange sensation if you are used to gels. We must massage the hair well with the cream formed by the soap.

3. We apply the solid shampoo

Next, I rub my olive oil and aloe vera soap all over my hair in circular motions, emulsifying it well to extract the cream that cleanses and nourishes my hair. Then I release the soap and massage my hair in circles with my fingertips all over my scalp (it's my ritual... I love feeling that my hair is nourished and clean and with a delicious aroma).

4. Rinse the hair with plenty of water

When using solid shampoo, a good rinse is essential to ensure that the hair is completely clean and free of residue. Due to its concentrated formula, solid shampoo can be harder to rinse out than liquid shampoo, which can lead to product build-up on the hair and scalp. If not rinsed properly, this can clog hair follicles and make hair look dull and lifeless.

5. We dry our hair naturally

As for drying, it is advisable to use a towel to dry your hair and avoid using a hairdryer with hot air, as it can be aggressive for your hair. You can also leave the towel on your head while doing some task to avoid the stress that can be caused by using an electrical appliance.

To get the best results when using soaps, avoid chemical products on the ends, such as masks or serums that are not natural, as they can form a film on the hair that prevents natural products from doing their job. In the case of masks, it is recommended to try organic or biological coconut oil as a mask, applying a small amount to your fingers and gradually spreading it over the ends of your hair. Leave it on for a few hours, or overnight if possible, and once the time is up, wash your hair with natural soap or shampoo.

A recommended trick to complete the hair treatment naturally is to regularly apply coconut oil to the tips.

If you use dyes, masks, coloured shampoos or other similar products that contain paraffin-based protective films, you may need to do a special rinse to remove them. To do this, you can rinse your hair with warm water and a cup of coffee filled with baking soda, dissolving it very well in the water and rinsing the hair vigorously until it is thoroughly rinsed all over. Then, wash your hair with the natural solid soap or shampoo and rinse well until you feel the hair clean in your hand and notice a "crack-crack". For a step-by-step explanation of cleaning with baking soda, see our article Chemical-free hair.

The result of washing with our solid olive oil and aloe vera shampoo is natural hair with shine and volume.

In general, the results of washing hair with natural soap or solid shampoo also depend on the quality or type of water used. In areas near the mountains, with lime-free water, the result is different from that in areas with more calcareous water.

Finally, it is important to note that natural olive oil soap with aloe vera can be an excellent option for hair care.

    Recommendation

Using a soap dish suitable for natural soaps is important because it helps prolong their life and avoids wasting product. In addition, it allows the soap to dry properly after each use, preventing the accumulation of bacteria and fungi on the surface of the soap. A soap dish with slots or holes in the base is ideal to allow water to drain and prevent moisture in the soap.

To this end we offer the following products:

    1. Handmade stoneware soap dish
    2. Olive wood soap dish
    3. Walnut wood soap dish
